Apple's stock dropped today, apparently in reaction to the Q2 financial analyst conference call. The company reported record quarterly earnings, and record shipments of computers and iPods. No wonder the value of the stock went down.

Software updates out today on some of the iApps.

The Apple local self discovery networking protocol formerly known as Rendevous has been renamed "Bonjour".

During the conference call yesterday, Apple announced that over 350 million iTunes had been purchased at the iTunes Music Store (iTms). The Register is suggesting that the total may go over a billion by the end of the year.

Amazon is offering a very sweet deal on Brother laser printers. You can pick up a refurbished USB laser printer for way under $100.

NetNewsWire has a new, bug fix release of both of their products.

The Soul of a New Machine is a wonderful book that gives you an insight into how computers are developed, and why troubleshooting is such a challenge at times. In this podcast, I speak highly of, and encourage folks to buy Disk Warrior from Alsoft. It's the most important single tool that I use in keeping Mac OS computers running.

The podcast ends with a beautiful tune from a Salt Lake City, Utah artist named Allison Affleck.

Bonjour, y'all.

T oday's troubleshooting topic is "Start Up Problems". Our tune of the day comes from a very talented musician who lives in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The artist is François Besson, the band is Light and Shade, and the tune, an instrumental, is Dutch Mountain Breakdown.

The Tiger roared again today. Apple Computer announced that they will ship Mac OS X 10.4, named "Tiger" on April the 29th; just a couple of weeks away. There will be a special event in the Apple retail stores that evening starting at 6PM.

Amazon.com is offering a $35 rebate on Tiger to people who pre-order.

Apple has announced a $30 rebate program for .Mac subscriptions in the US.

The dates for the Apple Expo - Paris have been announced.

The local press in the Atlanta Georgia area is talking about a proposed deal betwen Apple Computer and the Cobb County School Board, that if successful, will provide iBooks to all the teachers, high school and middle school students in the district.

Today's tech topic has to do with permission repairs. I give a lame eplination of what permissions are. For a better explination, check out this Apple Tech Note.

If you're anywhere near London, in the UK on April the 19th, stop by the Regent Street Apple Store where the Stereophonics will present some of their music. Space is limited so come early. Actually, there are three events on April 19th in three different contries that would be worth attending. Our iCal page has the details on many upcoming Apple focused events. If you'd like us to include your event on our calendar, drop us a line.

A listener wrote us advising that we might be a little too proactive in our endorsement of Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger. He pointed out that some users may experience problems with some applications when a new OS version is released. He's right. Some people do have problems when a new OS is released; especially people running old applications. Most serious Mac OS software developers are members of the Apple Developer Connection and have had pre-release versions of Tiger for many months now. Some shareware/freeware applications may have problems, but again, it's mostly going to be the old stuff that hasn't been updated lately.

Today we start a series on troubleshooting Mac OS computers. My favorite author of MacOS troubleshooting books is Ted Landau. I recommend his books, especially Mac OS X Help Line

Tonight's podcast ends with a tune from Benjy Rivas and the BBR Band. The tune is "I'd Rather Make It".
