RMG131-News from Mellow Joy

Todays very brief podcast comes from the Mellow Joy coffee shop in Lafayette Louisiana where I'm attending Festival International, an amazing (and free!) 5 day music festival featuring acts from around the world.

Among other news from Apple's shareholder meeting on Thursday was a response from Chairman Steve Jobs to the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition; a group which has been critical of Apple's environmental policies. Chairman Jobs responded that Apple has paid attention to recycling, and has, in the last year alone, recycled over 1500 tons of used computers. Responding to the charge that Apple has sent toxic e-waste to third world countries, Jobs said that Apple only exports ground up plastics which are used to make new computers. This author hopes that in the future, Apple will find an innovative way to package their new computers that doesn't include using large pieces of expanded plastic foam.

Computer reseller CompUSA has announced that most CompUSA reatail stores will host special events around launch of Mac OS X Tiger on the evening of April 29th.

I did some pro bono work today for a very intersting organization, Nabuur, an international organization, based in the Netherlands, that coordinates social service products in third world villages. Nabuur volunteers, from all over the world, use the organizations web site to participate in village development projects. It's a very interesting application of technology to real needs.

Thanks to the two people who "voted" for Radio MacGuys at podcastalley.com. Those two votes made us the 491st most popular podcast in their list. If you'd like to encourage us, please give us your vote of confidence.

Software developer Adobe will acquire Macromedia. The news inspired us to play "All Around the Kitchen" by San Francisco singer/songwriter Kim Milai.

German software developer, turingart, has released AB for Web. This package provides instant web access to a MacOS X address book.

In a story on TheStreet.com, writer Scott Moritz seemed to make fun of media mogul Martha Stewart, who at a news conference today, was quoted as saying her daughter listened to the radio on her iPod. Moritz writes, "At the moment the Apple music device doesn't come equipped to get live radio signals." I guess the Scott isn't up to speed on podcasting.

Macminute.com pointed out today that as part of the Mac OS 10.3.9 upgrade, Safari was upgraded to version 1.3, which among other things, provides a increase in speed.

In what sounds quite a bit like podcasting, electronics firm Motorola has announced a new ip-audio-to-the-car-radio-via-a-cellphone service today.

Radio MacGuys is on the road to Louisana later this week. To help get ready for the trip, we play Ma Tisere from New Orleans band, The Zydepunks.
